October is here and fall is definitely here!

It has been 2 weeks already and I haven't blogged.... So I thought, maybe it's time to post something on this first day of October. Fall is definitely here. This weekend, I will have to put away our summer clothes, goodbye sandals, shorts, capris, etc.... And hello sweaters and warmer clothes. Yesterday morning, it was so cold that I wore a jacket for the first time since last winter and it was also the first day we ate home made soup (leeks and potatoes, we have so many leeks in our garden!).

Last weekend, I accompanied Ernie to a coin & stamp show (boring for me and I forgot to take a book to read while he was checking out coins). The show was in West Seneca, NY and we went back through Niagara Falls, NY where we did some shopping at the new Super Walmart. Huge store (we won't be shopping at Tops anymore!) and besides great deals on food items (why are chicken and dairy products so much cheaper in the US??), I finally found a quilt for our bed.... I have been wanting one for a long time, I almost bought one last time I was at JC Penney. So I was very happy to find this beautiful quilt from the Home and Garden collection at Walmart and for the right price too: only $35.00!!

I couldn't believe it! I don't know why our Walmart doesn't carry this H&G collection, lots of pretty stuff.... I was very attracted by their dinner dishes... Maybe next time.... We are supposed to go to another coin & stamp show at Cheektowaga on Sunday, this time I won't forget a book or a magazine!

Changes on my blog

I tried to put a new banner on this blog.... I wanted a fall theme.... I found some fall banners on the cutest blog on the web but couldn't upload it... What happened?? I do have to upgrade my computer skills!! So instead I posted a picture of our fall flag that's been hanging on the front of our house since Labor Day weekend.

Today I took Casey for a long walk enjoying this beautiful fall day. She is back to her own self and went to sit on her bed when I put the bed in the kitchen but she still doesn't want to sit on her bed when I put it back in the living room.

I watched America's got talent last night, lots of good acts and I hope Barbara Padilla will win, such an amazing voice (even if I don't like opera) and such an amazing woman. And tonight The Biggest Loser starts again, not my favorite show, I just watch it on and off. Just looking forward to the new Survivor starting Thursday. With all the new shows starting, it really feels like summer is over, no more sitting in the backyard in the evenings!

A quiet weekend

A quiet weekend as most my weekends are now that I spend so much time at home taking care of my mother. Bless the Lord, she is slowly recovering from her broken hip surgery 6 weeks ago. She even sat outside this weekend, the weather was gorgeous and she did manage the 4 steps leading to our backyard, with the help of her cane and Ernie of course.

We took Casey to the vet again on Friday but just for a quick check-up, our vet wanted to make sure that Casey's ear is healing properly. Luckily, our Casey is back to her normal self after acting very strange for 2 days because of her allergy to penicillin. After changing the antibiotics, she is OK again except she still wants to sleep on the kitchen floor and not in her bed in the living room. Very strange... She used to love her bed!

And what I did this weekend:

- Three loads of laundry.

- Grocery shopping.

- Cleaned the laundry room, my scrapbooking room and the bathroom downstairs and I vacumed everything (I hate to vacum!).

- Watched "Yes Man", funny movie if you like Jim Carrey.

- Went for breakfast with Ernie at Opa and Oma, well really it was breakfast for Ernie but lunch for me.

- And I made this birthday card for one of my mother's friend who speaks French.

Back Blogging...

As I haven't been blogging for over a year but spend way too much time reading other people's blogs, I have decided enough is enough: Let's start blogging again!

Summer should be officially over and fall should be here but not this year, I am still wearing shorts and flip flops but I have put up my fall decorations last weekend. At our house, Labor Day weekend, the fall decorations go up and American Thanksgiving weekend, the Christmas decorations go up. I wouldn't put them up on our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend because that would be too early (mid-October!).

All the tomatoes are picked (way too many this year and no I won't start canning!), the patio furniture is still out and we are still using our BBQ. I am enjoying the cool mornings and evenings and the sunny days in the afternoon.

Fall is definitely my favorite season and I am looking forward to start cooking fall foods: chilis, soups, anything with pumpkins or apples. And I am so ready to start wearing jeans instead of capris or shorts and warm sweaters instead of T-shirts.

Another 3 or 4 weeks and I can start decorating for Halloween.

Spring is here!

I haven't been here since the end of February when it was cold and snowy outside.... What happened since then:

- SPRING IS HERE!! And I am enjoying this perfect weather: not too cold and not too hot and most importantly, it's sunny today!

- I am still working part-time... And scrapping whenever I can... I even started working on my cruise pictures. Here is my first cruise layout:

- We haven't been anywhere (not since our cruise in February!) except Buffalo for shopping and last week, we went for the first time to the Fallsview Casino (imagine that, after living here more than a year!), I don't gamble so I didn't even go inside the casino but I visited this beautiful hotel: http://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/Default.aspx and found a very cool gold purse (a big purse, I think small purses are useless!) at this amazing store where everything costs $15.00: http://www.bijouxterner.com/content/home.html.... I had been looking for a gold purse since I was in Florida. I will have to go back there.... We will have to try the chinese buffet... I like chinese food but I prefer buffets so I can try a bit of everything.

Well tonight it won't be chinese, here is our dinner menu: Breaded pork chops - green beans and fried potatoes.

As Vanessa posted some pics of her scrap room on her blog, I thought maybe I should do the same, I had to take some new pics of my room for a layout I have to finish for Michele's circle journal. When I have done the layout, I will post it here too.

What are my plans for today:

- This morning: catch up with my emails and this blog.

- This afternoon: Going to the bank - Going to Winners to pick up a "Southern Cooking" cookbook I saw there yesterday and have another look at their planners they have on sale and some scrapbooking stuff they sell now. If you live in the US and read my blog, Winners is the same store as TJ Maxx, same company, same type of store, just a different name in Canada and a bit more expensive but still great deals can be found there.

- And from 3 to 9:30 PM: I have to work so I will miss the results of American Idol....

September, October, November, December, January....No Posts!! But I am back and will try to blog more often. Just an update, we went on a cruise (we came back 2 weeks ago) and tomorrow I will post some pics.

And I can't wait! Fall is definitely my favorite season and I want to shop for some new Fall stuff such as a wreath to hang on our front door. I went to Wally's World today but didn't like what they had. Hopefully, I can go to Buffalo soon, I am sure I will find something at Jo-Ann's or AC Moore. I already bought a Fall flag when we were on vacation and I will hang it the week after Labor Day. In the meantime, to put me in a fall mood, I made a Happy Fall card for Peggy. Will mail it to her tomorrow together with 2 Fall tags.

Two new layouts

As soon as I got my Nashville pics printed, I did these 2 layouts. One is from Grand Ole Opry, Ernie with "Minnie Pearl" and one of myself with this guy who was greeting us at the entrance of the theater, the evening we went to see the show. The other layout has a pic of me at the entrance of the Grand Ole Opry during the day and the other pic is of Downtown Nashville taken from the boat when we took the General Jackson showboat cruise. On both days, the temperature was close to 100 degrees, that explains my skimpy clothing!

The Music City title was done with my "Hippie Chick" alphabet from Cuttlebug, first time I used my Cuttlebug to print letters. And I am sure I will use it many more times.... But now I need more alphabets!

Back from Indiana & Tennessee

We came back from our trip to Indiana and Tennessee over a week ago but I had a few things to do in the house, and start looking for a part-time job but finally here I am!

We had a great time and very hot weather, especially in Nashville where the temperature reached 97.... And terribly humid too.... I have never been so hot in my life even in the Caribbean!

First we drove to Lafayette, IN where Andres (stepson) goes to university (Purdue), we stayed there 4 days, then we drove a little over 5 hours to Nashville (first visit for me but not for Ernie). We stayed there 3 days and did all the tourist stuff: the Grand Ole Opry (where we saw Diamond Rio), the Wild Horse Saloon, the General Jackson boat cruise, the fabulous Gaylord Opryland Hotel - I have never seen anything like it! And of course we spent quite a few hours shopping at the Opry Mills outlet, another amazing place!

What I discovered in Nasville: BBQ meat southern style, is it ever delicious!! I wish they would sell this here.

What I liked about Nashville (besides the music of course!): awesome road system, big highways where the traffic flows, Ontario should have highways like this!

I am a country music fan, so I was in heaven but if you don't like country music, don't go there, you hear country music everywhere you go. As a matter of fact, Ernie had enough of it (he doesn't really like country music...).

We came back via Kentucky and West Virginia where we stayed overnight, then western Pennsylvania through Pittsburgh and Erie where we stopped at Jo-Ann's (got the 40% coupon and bought the Fall paper stack) and at the Millcreek Mall where Ernie got some great deals at Steve and Barry's and I went to AC Moore where amazingly I found acrylic stamps for one dollar.

But seriously, I didn't do that much scrapbooking shopping but I managed to go to Hobby Lobby, AC Moore and Jo-Ann where I also bought material for chair covers and a winter doggie bed for Casey. The best scrapping deal of my trip: Rhonna Farrer acrylic stamps for $8.95 at Walmart. It made me sick to think I paid $29.99 for the same set at my lss in Canada when it was so cheap at Walmart in the US.... And they don't have them at our Walmart here.

I am back from nowhere.... Just forgot that I had started this blog. I am terrible at blogging but very good at reading other scrappers' blogs. So what have I been doing since my last post here (June 12)?

1. We celebrated my birthday and Ernie's birthday.

2. We had our annual family BBQ.

3. Our basement is now totally finished.

4. I finished 2 swaps and made 3 birthday cards.

5. I started planning our trip to Indiana and Nashville, our hotel reservations are made.

6. I finished reading Paula Deen's memoirs: "It ain't all about the cooking" (I am a Paula Deen fan!).

Today, the weather is not so nice, it's been raining on and off since this morning but I have to go grocery shopping and pick up my latest pics at Walmart.

New scrapping goodies

Yesterday, I went to the Penn Centre to get Ernie's birthday present - his birthday is only on July 2nd but I like to take advantage of Father's Day specials - I got him a Calving Klein "Eternity" set (his favorite cologne). Of course I couldn't resist and stop at "A Buck or Two" where they have 2 aisles of scrapping goodies at amazing prices, it's not really "a buck or two" but nothing over $5.00, so I got 2 jars full of look alike Prima flowers for $2.00 each!! An "All Night Media" blue stamp pad for $2.00 and I went to Coles (bookstore) 'cause I love to browse in a bookstore and came back with the latest issue of Scrapbook Etc. (my favorite mag). And I also got a birthday present for Alexandra from Winners, a set of body lotion, bubble bath and soap. I still have to make her card though....

The temperature must be close to ninety today!! It seems like we are in the Carribbean but where is the ocean? Lake Ontario is not the same, that's for sure!

Cleaning day

Today was my cleaning day, I spent the whole morning cleaning the house, then ironing some of Ernie's shirts. It was already 4:00 PM when I had a chance to check my emails... Not a very exciting day but tonight it's Pirate Master night, let's see who will be kicked out today. And maybe after I can do some scrapping. I have to finish this scraplift swap that I had the idea to start in my Scrappin' Sisters group, very time consuming swap but I am sure I will get some nice items back.

What I am reading now:

I just started the series and as soon as I finish book 1, I am ready for book 2! I just love this type of book.

Our dog Casey is 10 years old. Casey has been with us since she was 4 and for the last 6 years she has been a blessing to us. She is a happy dog who had to find a new family when she was 4 years old because the kids in her previous family had allergies caused by her shedding. As soon as we went to see her, we knew she was the perfect dog for us!
